Staying in the Medina at Riad Maison Rouge, Marrakech

View in Riad Maison RougeMy boyfriend and I stayed at Riad Maison Rouge as part of a break to Marrakech in search of sunny weather and good food to maximise the bank holiday break in the UK.

On first impressions, the Riad is tucked away in the back streets of the Medina, making it a little tricky to find but the locals or a good taxi driver can happily show you the way in exchange for small change.

Once inside you’re in a completely different world to the humid exterior. A cool inner-courtyard with lemon trees will welcome you with an open styled roof where we were seated whilst the Manager ran through our booking and served us mint tea which is absolutely delicious.

We stayed a total of four nights, during which time we received a complimentary upgrade as the Riad was fairly quiet. Prices that we booked were inclusive of breakfast and also allowed us access to the roof top pool (which is a decent size for a bit of a swim – rare in the Medina) and roof terrace for sunbathing and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This is also the area where meals are served. The rooms at the Riad all offer a modern yet very Moroccan style, individually styled so that no room is ever the same. Rooms were cleaned daily by a team of discreet yet very efficient staff.

Breakfast at Riad Maison Rouge

The breakfast typically consisted of bread and cakes with a choice of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and mint tea for breakfast which is typical Moroccan cuisine and freshly served each morning by the very attentive staff. This was perfect to start off the day in a refreshing way with a healthy breakfast that isn’t too heavy given that it was nearly 45 degrees most days! This is alongside the freshly squeezed orange juice (which we couldn’t get enough of) and fruit for a lighter start to the day.

Bedroom at Riad Maison RougeThe manager is very helpful as are all other staff, very polite and able to provide advice with excursions where necessary. There is so much to do that it would be a shame not to take advantage of all that Marrakech has to offer.

We are already planning a return visit, location is just 15mins walk from the main square and easy enough to find with the help of a taxi or a local.
