Madrid City Card

Explore the city with the MadridCard

Last weekend I spent a couple of days enjoying the heat of the Spanish sun (in January!), in Madrid for my first solo getaway for 2016. The sun was shining, the food was great and the culture, thriving.

I obtained a MadridCard to help me to make the most of sightseeing around the city. Once purchased, it’s a great option for enabling visitors to visit major museums and attractions throughout the city at discounted, or no additional cost at all.

With just one weekend in the city, the 48-hour MadridCard was the best option for me. My voucher was arranged online and after printing my voucher, I was able to collect my card upon arrival at Madrid-Barajas airport.

MadridCard is a city pass that offers a great option for tourists to Madrid that wish to visit the major museums and attractions. The Palacio Real de Madrid

I enjoyed using the card to access attractions like the The Palacio Real de Madrid which is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family at the city of Madrid. The pass was completely hassle-free and allowed me to access certain attractions via a priority entrance at no extra cost.

Other attractions available via the MadridCard include Plaza de Toros de las Ventas, Prado National Museum and Reina Sofia National Art Museum.Prado National Museum

Purchase of the Madrid Card also entitles you to a free Madrid guide including information on all the museums and attractions as well as a map of Madrid.

This is great for helping to find other attractions like Templo de Debod where I enjoyed the incredible sunset and an example of Egyptian architecture in Madrid.Templo de DebodTemplo de Debod

There’s also discount offers for restaurants, shops and shows like Flamenco dancing to ensure that you get the very best experience of Madrid.

If you’re heading to Madrid and are keen to see and explore the city’s museums, I’d recommend purchasing your card online for collection in the city. There are two offices at the airport in terminals 2 and 4, as well as offices located around the city for ease of access.

If you’re heading to Madrid then buy your MadridCard online today.

Many thanks to Neoturismo for supplying a MadridCard during my visit.

  1. The city cards are great for first time visitors who want to hit many musueums. I love that they are easily bought at the airport. What was the estimated savings by buying the card for the musuems you visited? I think it’s always good for folks to figure out ahead of time what they want to do and evaluate the ROI on the cards offered.

    1. It was a great way to see around the city, especially for such a short trip. I broke even with my savings and found the guide pretty handy for clearly showing free attractions and suggestions for evening activities and nightlife.
