My friend and I ordered a selection of starters and mains from the a la carte menu, before going on to order dessert – we just couldn’t resist having all three courses.

The food was presented immaculately. My friend has ordered Tisria – a light and delicate Cochin dish of seared scallops with cauliflower pakora, kalongi puree and creamy mango-infused coconut milk. I chose to have Sarson Ka Jhinga, a Lasan classic of juicy tandoori king prawns marinated in mustard, turmeric and lemon, served with a sweet, tangy grapefruit and orange sirka. Both dishes were absolutely divine.

For the main course we enjoyed Hyderabadi Biryani which consisted of layers of tender, slow-stewed goat and lightly-spiced basmati rice, served with sweet and creamy pineapple raita. My friend chose Nellore Chappa – a fresh pan-fried halibut with crispy curry leaf and chilli pakora in a delicious allepy sauce. Both dishes were well presented and a good portion size. The flavours worked well with both meals, which we enjoyed with a tandoori roti.

Located on James Street close to St. Paul’s Square, Lasan is so much more than a curryhouse. Lasan has taken authentic Indian dishes and transformed them into modern fine dining delights, served in beautiful surroundings that exuberate elegance and sophistication.

We both opted to try the Beetroot Halwa for dessert which was beautifully presented and a great way to end the meal. The beetroot was a little sweeter than I’d usually enjoy, but was perfectly accompanied by pistachio ice cream which provided a good balance of flavour.

The service in Lasan was second to none. It’s clear to see that offering a personalised experience to every single customer is vital. Waiting staff take the time to explain the dishes to you on arrival at the table, demonstrating their extensive knowledge about the menu and its origin.

Following a £500,000 refurbishment in 2017, guests of Lasan enjoy a modern and spacious interior. The decadent feel is representative of India’s high class society, classy and beautifully furnished, with a nod to highlight its Indian culture.

It’s easy to see why Lasan has firmly established itself as the finest Indian restaurant in the UK, courtesy of its numerous awards and recognition.
