Highlights of Helsinki, Finland

As part of a short break from the UK, I was able to visit Finland for a couple of nights. It’s a fantastic city with plenty to offer.

I only spent a brief amount of time in the city but if you’re planning a trip to Helsinki, then I’ve listed my highlights below.

A sightseeing guide to Lisbon, Portugal

As part of my winter travel in 2013 I opted to head to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal for a long weekend away with six members of the Nomadness Travel Tribe from around Europe.

With some of my companions travelling from Italy, Spain, Germany and France, we had chosen Lisbon for a group trip as it would be a new experience for us to meet and explore the city together. It proved to be a fun and eventful trip offering plenty to keep seven women busy and intrigued, wanting more from a city that never stops giving.

Christmas in Lille with Eurostar

With the Christmas season in full swing, I wanted to make the most of an opportunity to do shopping and sightseeing on the readily accessible Eurostar service from London. Having previously visited Paris and Brussels courtesy of the reliable service, I wanted to try somewhere new, hence opting for Lille.

Located in northern France, Lille is 1 hour 20 minutes from London St. Pancras International with travel offered at very reasonable fares as low as £69 return.

A German-inspired Christmas in Birmingham

A visit to Birmingham during the Christmas season wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Frankfurt Christmas Market. It’s an annual event that (in my opinion) marks the start of the season.

I love a good market, whether it’s just for a browse or (usually) to enjoy food and other treats of the marketplace, hence making an effort to visit those of home – like Borough Market – and abroad.

On Saturdays, the Notting Hill area of London becomes home to Portobello Road Market, a popular street market renown for its second-hand clothes and antiques and a popular choice for visitors to London.

Revelations in “New York, New York”

“New York, New York”, the city that never sleeps and one that I recently visited on an oh-so-spontaneous trip across the Atlantic – oh, and it was also my first solo trip; bring on the pressure!

New York is a city that I was never quite sure about. As a beach and relaxation kind of girl, the idea of the glitz, shopping, glamourous nightlife and more was never something that was at the top of my bucket list. In fact, it always reminded me of London, which may explain why I put off visiting – why go somewhere that was just like home?

Bangkok is an incredible city that combines religion, cultural experiences, a metropolitan city vibe and the best of both for luxury and budget travellers.

On a trip taken in 2012, I had just 48 hours in Bangkok and a jam packed itinerary of sight-seeing around the city with a mix of markets, shopping malls, massages, tuk-tuks and more.

Break Bar in Wood Green, North London

Today I had a rare day in London and so decided to take a trip over to Wood Green, an area that I hadn’t yet been to but have heard quite a lot about.

I decided to take the Picadilly Line from Kings Cross Station up to Wood Green which took around 20 minutes due to the efficiency of the service – a rarity I know! Wood Green tube station is located at the top of the High Street – upon leaving the station I was directly opposite the Cineworld cinema before proceeding to walk along the High Street.
